Interleukin-13 is a cytokine that inhibits inflammatory cytokine production. Synergizes with IL-2 in regulating interferon-gamma synthesis. May be critical in regulating inflammatory and immune responses. It induces a class of protein-degrading enzymes, known as matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), in the airways.
